When an energy-saving economizer is not used, some outside (fresh) air is still required in almost all applications. A manual hood is the most
cost-effective alternative and is simply adjusted one time and remains in place. The setting is usually determined by ASHRAE minimum outside air
requirements. Manual hoods are generally good for up to 25% outside air intake. |
| The 2 position hoods also allow for a specific amount of outside air to enter the building space for fresh air, however a damper actuator is tied
into the HVAC unit's indoor blower so that when the blower is on the damper is open. Conversely, when the blower is off the damper closes – keeping
potentially very cold or hot undesired air from migrating into the building and creating additional loads. 2 position outside air hoods range from
25% to 100% air intake. |
